How to disable Grisoft AVG Free edition (version 7) email scanning feature

Symptoms: You can not get your email but your Internet browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla, Firefox, etc) is working properly.

Possible cause:  Your virus scanner is not working properly.  If you're using Grisoft's Free AVG virus scanner, do the following:

  1. Launch the AVG Control Center.  To do this, find the four colored square block icon on your system tray (lower right corner next to the time), right click on the icon and left click on "Launch AVG Control Center".

  2. Find and Click on "E-mail Scanner" in the control center.
  3. At the bottom of the control center, click on the Properties button.
  4. Click on the Disable Plugin button if the button is enabled.
  5. Click on the Configure button.
  6. Uncheck all the boxes: Checking incoming mail, Check outgoing mail, Use, Heuristic Analysis, etc...
  7. Click the OK button to exit the Test options box.
  8. Click the OK button to exit the Email scanner properties.
  9. Close the Control center by clicking on close button (X icon) in the upper right corner.
  10. If you did everything correctly, your AVG icon in the system try should be colorless (see picture below). If not, repeat until you do.
  11. If you still can't get your email, disable or shutdown your firewall or call your ISP.
