Outlook Express 5.0 and 6.0 for Windows


E-mail Accounts in Outlook Express 5.x and 6 are set up via Identities.  If you only have one email account on your computer or are using Windows XP with different accounts, skip to STEP 5. To add or change a password to an identity, click here.


To create a new Identity:

Step 1. Start Outlook Express then click File, then Identities




Step 2. Select Add New Identity

Step 3. In the New Identity dialogue box;


  • Type the name of the new Identity
  • Click OK



Step 4. Click Yes to switch to your new Identity




Configure the new Email account using the Internet Connection Wizard


Step 5. Once Outlook Express starts, the Internet Connection Wizard appears.  If the wizard does not start, click on Tools --> Accounts --> Add --> Mail. Type your name as you want it to appear in your message's From: field



  • Click Next

Step 6. Type in your WADSNET email address (username@wadsnet.com)



  • Click Next



  • Set your incoming mail server type to POP3
  • Type in "mail.wadsnet.com" as the Incoming mail server address box
  • Type in "smtp.wadsnet.com" as the Outgoing mail server address box

Step 7. Type your WADSNET account Username and Password


  • Check the Remember Password box to avoid entering your password every time you open your account
  • Click Next

  • The confirmation dialogue box appears.
  • If the wizard prompts you to export, DO NOT import or skip it.
  • Click Finish


You should now see the Internet Accounts dialogue box. Click on mail.wadsnet.com and then click on Properties, then click on the Server Tab. Under the server tab, click on the check box 'My Outgoing Server Requires Authentication' . Then click on OK and then Close. Your email is now set up and ready to go. You can get back to this area by clicking Tools and then Accounts.




To add password protection to an Identity:
Note: Identity Passwords in Outlook Express 5.x or 6 CANNOT be broken. If you forget your password, you will lose all your e-mail in that Identity.

 

Step 1. Click File, Identities, Manage Identities




Step 2. Highlight the Identity you want to password protect


Step 3. Select Properties




Step 4. In the Identity Properties dialogue box, check Require a Password




Step 5. In the Enter Password dialogue box, enter and confirm the account password





  • The Switch Identities dialogue box now displays a password field when the account is selected
