Determining if a NIC exist
The first method is bring up the Device manager (Right click on My
Computer, select Properties, and then click on the Device
manager tab). Check in the Network
Adapters for any device with Ethernet in the name
The second is to run WINIPCFG and check to see if there are adapters
with Ethernet in the name.
Installing USB NIC
Your PC must have Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows ME or MacOS Version 8 or
higher as an operating system (OS). Do not install USB on Windows 95 or
Windows NT.
Check in Device manager to see if "Universal serial bus
controller" exist. If the OS is MacOS 8 or higher then you do not have to
check.

- Check in the back or front to see if there are USB ports.
- Make sure the PC is running.
- If you have the F=MA USB Nic, plug the network patch cord into the USB NIC and then plug the USB cord
into the PC.
- If you have the Surfboard SB4100, RCA DCM235/DCM235R or any other USB cable modem, plug the USB cord from the
cable modem to your computer.
- The OS will prompt for that a new device was found
- Insert the USB driver disk into the A Drive and follow the installation
wizard

Note: touch a grounded metal object to free yourself of static electricity
before you handle the network card.
- Turn the power off and unplug the power cord from your computer.
- Remove the PC cover.
- Choose an available PCI slot (PCI slots are shorter slots and are
usually white) and remove the corresponding back plate from the PC
chassis.
- Insert the network card into the PCI expansion slot.
- Fasten the network card to the rear of the computer chassis by
tightening the screw that is on the PC.
- Replace the PC cover and reconnect the power cord to the PC.

When Windows has found the new NIC, it’ll prompt for drivers.
Make sure you have the floppy driver disks

- Click on Next to start the installation the NIC drivers.

- You want to search for the best drivers so click on Next.

- If you are using the floppy disk, check "Floppy disk drives,"
insert the floppy disk and check on Next

- Click on Next. If Windows prompt for the NIC drivers, either type in A:\
or the CD-ROM path (e.g. D:\NIC\USB).
- When it prompts for the Windows CD, insert your Windows CD.
- If Windows did not find files from the Windows CD then enter the
following paths:
- C:\WINDOWS
- C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
- C:\WINDOWS\HELP
- Finally Windows prompt that you are done, click on the Finish
button and reboot.
