How to fix Winsock Error for Windows ME

1.  Backup your registry.  To do this, go to START and click on RUN.  Then type in REGEDIT.

2.  Select MY COMPUTER.  Click on REGISTRY, then choose EXPORT.  Save the backup registry file to the desktop.

 

 

3.  Now we need to remove the windows system restore.  Go to START and point to settings.  Open up the CONTROL PANEL.  Then open up SYSTEMS.  Under the PERFORMANCE tab, click on FILE SYSTEM.

 

4.  In the new Dialog Box, select the TROUBLESHOOTING tab.  Now check DISABLE SYSTEM RESTORE.

 

5.  Next, we need to remove your TCP/IP network settings.  To do this, go to START and point to SETTINGS.  Choose the CONTROL PANEL.  Then choose NETWORK.  Select TCP/IP and then click REMOVE.

 

 

6.  The next step is to remove DIAL-UP NETWORKING.  To to this, go to START and point to SETTINGS.  Choose the CONTROL PANEL.  Then choose ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.  Click on the WINDOWS SETUP tab.  Uncheck COMMUNICATIONS.  Click APPLY.  If prompted that the network is incomplete, click OK.

 

 

7.  Back in the Registry, we need to delete WINSOCK2.  To do this, double-click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Then SYSTEM.  Then CURRENTCONTROLSET.  Finally SERVICES.  Right click on WINSOCK2, and click DELETE.

 

 

8.  All that is left is to re-install TCP/IP.  To do this, go to START and point to SETTINGS.  Choose the CONTROL PANEL.  Double-click on NETWORK.  Click ADD, and then select PROTOCOL.  Click ADD.

 

 

9.  Select MICROSOFT.  On the right, choose TCP/IP.  Click OK.  If prompted that the network is incomplete, click OK.  Then Restart your computer.
